Sweat equity in the community!
Pat Sutherland, of the TRU Hardware in Pilot Mound, Manitoba, is no stranger to community involvement. Along with being the owner operator of the store, with his wife Shelley, he is a volunteer Paramedic, as well as, volunteer president of the local recreation centre.
The Rec centre was a 10 year community project that started with volunteers in the community joining to fundraise and build it. "Our town did everything," said Pat. "and it runs completely with volunteers, from maintence, to operation." Pat's store supplied paint and the flooring for the facility.
PILOT MOUND MILLENNIUM RECREATION COMPLEX opened in the Spring 2009. It includes Hockey, curling and a daycare. They are adding the Tivoli Theatre and then moving the town museum into the complex. "The town of Pilot Mound didn't just build a building, they built community spirit."
